Stephanie Elyse Sherman is the MA Narrative Environments course leader.

Stephanie is a director, strategist, producer, and writer working across design, urbanism, technology, media, and culture. Her practice spans systems, service, speculative, and story design. Her projects reprogram outmoded systems, sites, and surplus as collaborative platforms that recompose words and worlds.

Stephanie co-founded three non-profits Elsewhere (elsewheremuseum.org), Common Field (commonfield.org), and Provisions Research (provisionslibrary.org). She has designed and produced thousands of large-scale public events and experiences, most recently with Radio Espacio Estacion (radioee.net--an online nomadic radio station hosting broadcast events about mobility and movement). She has collaborated with and consulted for companies across tech, industry, and civil society, including work with Ford Motors, Hyundai, San Diego Association of Governments, Koreo, SAP Design and others.

Stephanie's writing has been published in The New Normal Compendium, Cabinet Magazine, AI & Society, ACM Design Interactions, and Field Journal. She is finalizing her PhD on sociotechnical systems design and platform automation at The Center for Design and Geopolitics at the University of California San Diego and she holds an MA in Philosophy from Duke and a BA in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania.
