Maria graduated with a BA in Architecture and Fine Arts from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She decided to undertake both majors as she finds in art the liberty that is missing from the architecture world, the freedom to create irrational projects, and the opportunity to be guided by emotions rather than strict parameters and measurable principles. Originally from Bogotá, Maria has also lived in France where she studied in L’Ecole d’Architecture de Grenoble, and then worked for Outsign, a multidisciplinary design company in Paris. Back in Colombia, Maria worked during four years in Proyecta, an interior design office where she led renovation and decoration projects mostly for residential spaces. She completed multiple projects including furniture design and decor for model apartments within social housing projects in marginalized neighborhoods. In parallel, she has carried out personal professional projects such as the extension of a country house, the adequacy of a training space for a trail running team, and the renovation of two old apartments in the north of Bogotá. Striving to reconnect herself with the art world as to be able to create impactful spaces and events that could foster peoples' interactions, spawn cultural growth, and generate social impact, Maria is currently doing the MA Narrative Environments at Central Saint Martins.
