Capturing Smell

We invite you to Smell London.

We have created a series of textual maps detailing the odours of locations around London that set out to inspire you to experience and explore spaces in a new way.

We are offering you the opportunity to share your descriptions online to help build a collection of sensory stories.  By exploring locations through smell, literally following your nose, it is possible to reveal things you cannot see, trigger memories and arouse many different emotions.

Smell has no boundaries; it is temporary and transitory, so by describing what you smell you can create an alternative form of framing and capturing the moment.  To fully experience this new sensation, slow down the pace, pause and concentrate on the cocktail of aromas around you.

Through this olfactory processing it is possible to learn to read a place with a fresh perspective and consciously heighten awareness of this otherwise neglected sense.
